Our Own Bee Bot Instructions

                      Our Own Bee Bot Instructions

Today at school we were learning how to make your own tracks for the bee bots to travel on and take our directions.   We had koka Jo who told us how to do it and we had to use blocks to mark out the track.

At first I found it quite hard to mark out the track.  Then after I checked my instructions and put the blocks into the spaces for the bee bots to follow it was successful! Yay!

These are my instructions for Bee-Bot to follow.

                                             What bee bots are

Bee bots are a robot but they are are shaped like a bee and coloured like a bee so that's why they call them bee bots.   Bee bots have little buttons on their back that you press to programme your instructions. Bee bot are very cool and interesting.  Bee bots can go right, left, straight, backwards and then you press go.   When you put bee bots on charge their eyes will become red and if it is not on charge they will be yellow.  As it is following your instructions it will beep and change colour.

When you are trying to make a maze for it to follow  you have to have heaps of perseverance when it doesn't work and try again and never give up.   Kia kaha. Kia manawanui!!

Tuahine lighthouse - lead the way

Tuahine lighthouse - lead the way

Our class made a lighthouse that represented Tuahine lighthouse. We each  did them on google drawings. My lighthouse was big and I had some words on it that said lead the way and that would take you to a link, that was a picture of Tuahine lighthouse.

Lead the way was are cool meaning for me because at night the lighthouse leads the boats and shines a light to help them see their path more clearly, and if you are struggling with your work you can shine your light to lead the way to get it done. So that's why I put lead the way in my lighthouse google drawing. Click the link on my lighthouse please.

How Bee Bots move

                                            How bee bots move

What are bee bots? Bee bots are  like a robot but they are in a shape like a bee and coloured like a bee. You press some buttons and that tells the bee bot to go left or right. But first you have to make a grid that is 15 cm each way and  that is not too big. Then you have to make places for it to go from the book we read and then press the left and right arrows and then press go and it will take your directions and it might go the right  way and might not, if your grid was wonky, as well.

With my group we read  the book called Mcbungles African safari, then made a grid to put the bee bot on and  to drive it around and give it directions and hopefully it will go that way.  Then we did some pictures to put in the spaces in the grid and then the bee bot can go to those places and then when it gets to the end it will beep and when it charges it eyes change colour it's very cool.

Me and kyla-rose tried it heaps and it did not work, but then we did one instruction at a time and that worked way better and we were so happy.  I loved the bee bots they wore very cool and interesting because it changed colour and we could direct them and then press go and it will take your directions. I learnt how to follow the bee bot at the same time that you are giving your directions.

Minimising waste

The six Rs of minimising waste

Last week we went to the Enviro center with room 1 we travelled there on a big bus it was very exciting. They told us all about waste and how to reuse things that i did not know we could reuse.  They also told us about how everyday people from the super market staff chuck heaps of truck loads of food out everyday and they just dump it in a big rubbish bin, but most days people come and bring food that is only just over expired and they take it to the enviro center and at the enviro center they make sure its not moldy and then name it and take it to places or families that cant afford and so the people can get some food. Also they took us through some stayshions and showed us around  and showed us a video about  when there was a
dump at a beach and how much rubbish went in the sea and bushes  and buried around the sand.

The people who worked there took us to a room and showed  aus about the six Rs  they wore and we learnt what odder they went in and what they do and mean.  It was very cool and interesting to learn heaps of things that i did not know before. Also one lady who worked there called Cody she look us around the garden and we tasted heaps of fresh and wet and warm vegetables they wore so delicious.

We kept going through stations then I went to the compost station with Cody and she got us to get some compost and feel it and smell it. It smelt so yuck!!!!! Cody told us how to make a very good compost and she said to make layers  like a lanza and the layers have to go green brown and she told us what to put in the layers it was like twigs and leafs are really good to.

Then we went to this room and learnt about the six Rs and they are
Reuse= People can refuse to by something that they want but don't really need but they will not by it because at the end of that objects life sickle it will eventually rot down into the ground and will be not that good for the plants and the environment.
Refuse= you need to refuse to by something  that you want but don't need.
Recycle= People can recycle things and put it in there recycle bin.
Reduce = you can reduce  the amount of me materials used.
Repair = can the product be repaired easily .
Rot = at the end of every thing that is plastic it will eventually rot away in the ground or go into the sea but if it rots.

Then we went back to school in the bus and had our lunch. My favorite part of the trip was tasting all the different types of the fresh of food from the garden and i loved learning heaps of things about how to do an apic compost and worm farm.
